Color Field as healing tools in meditation.

During the pandemic, I experimented heavily with washes utilizing speedball Inks, Gouache, and watercolor. The result was a celebration of color and subtle gradients that balanced long dry times and no brushstrokes. The ongoing theme was Zen-like meditative qualities.

Artist Statement

This body of Color Field paintings, created in watercolors and speedball inks on cold-pressed paper, embodies a meditative approach to healing through color therapy. Each piece, carefully crafted in small dimensions, serves as a visual balm for emotional traumas such as PTSD and anxiety, offering viewers a pathway to serenity and inner peace.

By drawing on the principles of color therapy, I have chosen specific hues known for their therapeutic properties. The soft gradients and expansive color fields evoke calmness, reduce stress, and promote emotional healing. For instance, my watercolors' soothing blues and gentle greens aim to calm the mind and alleviate anxiety. At the same time, the warm yellows and oranges can uplift the spirit and foster a sense of joy and safety.

These works are intended as art and tools for emotional well-being. They invite viewers to immerse themselves in the therapeutic effects of color, facilitating a meditative state where healing can occur. The small-scale format enhances this experience, allowing for an intimate connection with the art that can be reflective and transformative. Through these paintings, I hope to provide a visual sanctuary where viewers can find solace and restoration in the simple yet profound interplay of color and form.

Additionally, through practice and learned techniques, I've attempted to show subtle gradations of slow-drying fields of color that produce a satisfying visual experience without demonstrating brush strokes. The lack of brush Strokes increases the euphoria of the transcendental experience required for color field healing.
