The result expanded my process of working with active water on larger sheets of paper as the water evaporates. In this piece, I’ve offset color blocks and added a color band in the middle as a central anchor, the Crimson Line, for the eye to follow as other tonal values unfold around the center viewing arena for the viewer.
In Buddhist meditation, the Tanka showcases a deity. Color blocks assist the viewer in guiding the eye into the Tanka. Similarly, I use the crimson line to guide the viewer across the paper to experience the tones of color.
